
Beginning as a U. S. navy Journalist in the Pacific, Jim Duggins studied with James Michener and Bill Lederer. Following military service he went to the University of Illinois, San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley after which he taught English and speech at high school, community college, and university levels. As a professor he was co-author of the widely read and acclaimed HOOKED ON BOOKS (Berkeley Books) and collection, TEACHING READING FOR HUMAN VALUES (Charles Merrill), wrote and edited academic journals and freelanced with magazines and newspapers.
Now in a new career writing fiction full time, he has returned to his love of history. In this pursuit he has published two historical novels, THE POWER and SLAVE STEALER which are the first of a five-novel series, The Chronicles of Reyna Royale. He lives in the desert in Southern California and has a house in Mexico where he collects Mexican Folk Art and works as a regular contributor to museums around the United States.
Jim Duggins is a member of the Original Palm Springs Writers Guild (Palm Springs, California) and The Authors Guild (New York) as well as the Historical Novel Society and a contributor to The Tennessee Williams Festival Foundation. A contributor to the Lambda Literary Foundation, he is also the founder of the Outstanding Mid-career Novelist award which has been offered at the Saints and Sinners Writers Festival in New Orleans.
